Police: Man Severely Injured After Jumping On Back Of Moving Car In Fox Chase

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Police say a man is in critical condition after he jumped on the back of a moving car in the city's Fox Chase section.

Authorities say the incident took place around 9:20 p.m. on Thursday night on the 8000 block of Veree Road.

Officials say a witness told police that a man who appeared to be in his early 20's was at the intersection of Veree Road and Rhawn Street. The witness said he jumped onto a moving car that was headed northbound on Veree Road.

It is not known if the man knew the person driver the car.

Police say the car drove on for about 200 feet and then crashed into a tree and a pole. The vehicle lost its passenger side mirror.

Authorities located the man at that spot and he was transported to Aria Torresdale Hospital with severe head trauma. He was listed in critical condition.

Officials say the vehicle fled the scene. An investigation is underway.
