Car Hits, Kills Deer That Wandered Onto Benjamin Franklin Bridge
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — A deer somehow found its way onto the Philadelphia side of the busy Benjamin Franklin Bridge, where it made its way to the train tracks on the span before running into traffic and being killed by a car.
The deer was first spotted around 11:30 a.m. Wednesday on the eastbound tracks of the PATCO commuter train that runs on the bridge, which spans the Delaware River and connects downtown Philadelphia to southern New Jersey.
PATCO said a train conductor stopped in time to avoid hitting the deer but the animal then jumped into the car lanes of the bridge, where it was struck and killed.
Train service was resumed about an hour after the incident. PATCO said they're trying to determine how the deer could have gotten onto the tracks.
