Car Crashes Attempting To Avoid Gunfire In South Philadelphia, Police Say
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - A car in South Philadelphia lost control and crashed into another car while attempting to dodge bullets, the driver told police. The incident allegedly happened on the 1700 block of McKean Street, just after 5 a.m. Monday.
Witnesses tell Eyewitness News that a man speeding in a burgundy Jeep slammed into a woman driving a white BMW SUV. The SUV then slammed into a telephone pole, trapping the woman inside. She was eventually able to get out.
Neither driver was injured, but the male driver was heard telling police that his car was shot at prior to the accident. Three bullet holes were visible on the back door of the Jeep.
It is unclear where the shooting happened.
Police closed off the intersection for several hours to collect evidence. Investigators were seen testing a substance that was found on the street next to the crashed vehicles.
Police say they are investigating this as a possible road rage situation.
