Captain America: Civil War Fights To Top Of Box Office

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Captain America: Civil War was a marvel at the box office. The comic book-inspired fantasy sequel starring Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr. did more than just kick off the summer movie season: it also earned an estimated $182-million on its debut weekend.

That gives it the fifth biggest opening in film history. Holdovers rounded out the top five, with The Jungle Book the runner-up with $22-million, followed by Mother's Day with $9-million, The Huntsman: Winter's War with $4-million, and Keanu with $3-million.

Overall, industry-wide totals far surpassed those of last weekend or last year, mostly because of the strong start to the big summer season provided by Captain America: Civil War.
