Camden Police Dogs Get Equipped With Bullet Proof Vests

CAMDEN, N.J. (CBS) -- The two K-9 police dogs on Camden County Metro Division's force are now equipped with custom fitted bullet proof vests thanks to a non-profit animal organization.
Camden County K-9 officers, Zero and Achilles, will now be protected on the streets of Camden. The dogs have been custom fitted with bullet proof vests. At a cost of more than $14-hundred each, they are a gift from Canine Wounded Heroes.
"Often pets are forgotten in the budget and things of that nature," says Lieutenant Gabriel Camachio, "but these dogs in every aspect are equivalent to an officer. And that being said, they should be given and provided with the tools they need to do their job. This is huge. This is great for the department. We greatly appreciate it."
The police department will expand its K-9 unit later in the year with four more dogs. Canine Wounded Heros will be covering the costs for their vests too.
