Camden Native Nominated For 3 Grammy Awards

By Melony Roy

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The Grammys will be awarded this coming Sunday night, and there are some nominees from our area up for awards. One musician with South Jersey roots is nominated for three Grammys.

Camden native Tye Tribbett is nominated for best gospel /contemporary Christian music performance, best gospel song and best gospel album.

"We were always in the shadow of the great Kirk Franklin," Tribbett tells KYW Newsradio. "He always put out albums the same time I did so we always took a back seat to him, but it's always an honor just to be nominated and be recognized for the work you do."

He is nominated for his #1 album GREATER THAN and its lead single 'If He Did It Before…Same God'. It is a live album and his fifth body of work.

"We recorded it in two locations, one in LA and one in Miami, and put the best of them together and came up with an amazing presentation of inspirational gospel music that I'm very very proud of."

Listen to Melony Roy's interview with Tye Tribett in this CBS Philly podcast:

Tribbett will be attending the award ceremony in Los Angeles. It will air on CBS at 8 p.m. January 26th.
