Camden Man Who Fired At Officers Charged

CAMDEN, N.J. (CBS) -- A man accused of firing at police in Camden, New Jersey will be held in custody after being wounded by officers returning fire.

The shooting happened shortly before 10 p.m. Friday near 7th and Sycamore Streets.

Authorities say four officers responded to a report of a man with a gun in Chestnut Court. Upon their arrival, the officers were confronted by 28-year-old James Dickerson of Camden who allegedly pulled a gun and fired several shots at the officers. The officers returned fire, striking Dickerson once in the leg.

Dickerson was taken to Cooper Hospital in stable condition. He is charged with four counts of Attempted Murder and related weapons offenses.

Police say he will be transferred to the Camden County Jail when he is medically cleared.

The shooting is under investigation.
