Camden Man Fleeing From Police Paralyzed In Fall

CAMDEN, N.J. (AP) — Authorities say a Camden man was paralyzed when he slipped on a wet roadway while fleeing from police and injured his spine.

Camden County prosecutors say the accident occurred Thursday night near an apartment complex.

County police officers noticed that 21-year-old Xavier Ingram was holding his waistband in a way that indicated he may have a gun. Authorities say he went between two parked cars, and an officer heard a noise that sounded like a metal object being dropped.

After Ingram walked away, an officer found a handgun behind a parked vehicle's tire.

The officers tried to stop Ingram when he left a nearby business, but he ran off and soon slipped, falling hard to the ground.

Police handcuffed Ingram, who told the officers he couldn't feel his legs.
