Camden Man Charged With Fatally Hitting Man

CAMDEN, N.J. (AP) — A man who police say showed signs of being drunk has been charged with fatally hitting another man with his vehicle.

The Camden County prosecutor's office has charged Neri Garcia, of Camden, with first-degree death by auto.

It was not immediately known if Garcia has a lawyer.

The prosecutor says Garcia hit Benjamin Cortes-Ramos with his 2000 Ford Explorer around 8:30 p.m. on Oct. 4 in Camden. Cortes-Ramos died later that night at Cooper University Hospital.

The prosecutor says police reported that Garcia had a blood alcohol level of 0.21 percent and that they found two open containers of alcohol in his vehicle.

Garcia surrendered to police and was placed in county jail and was later released after posting bail .
