Camden County Unveils New Tool In Effort To Control Mosquitoes

By Mike DeNardo

CAMDEN, NJ (CBS) -- Camden County is looking for the public's help in mapping concentrations of mosquitoes.

Camden County has launched a new web tool for residents to report standing water and other locations where mosquitoes are breeding.

Freeholder Carmen Rodriguez says information compiled from the web reports will help the county to more accurately map where spray crews should be deployed.

"We're always sampling the populations of larvae in there so we now what mosquitoes are there. We trap mosquitoes We send them out for testing as well, so we know what mosquitoes we have -- as well as do they have any diseases?"

The form can be found at camdencounty.com.

Rodriguez says several Zika cases have been reported in the county, but residents acquired the virus while traveling, not from an infected mosquito here.
