Camden County Testing Out Ice Skating Rink At Cooper River Park

By David Madden

CAMDEN, N.J. (CBS) - Just in time for the holidays, Camden County has opened a new ice rink within Cooper River Park.

Philadelphia's new rink, built for the winter in Dilworth Park, is getting a challenge from Pennsauken.

"This rink is being built in the center of the Curtis Stadium, around the running track if you're familiar with the park," says Camden County Freeholder Jeffrey Nash. "This way you have the backdrop of the Philadelphia skyline."

Nash expects the rink to be a big hit:

"This is sort of a test run, but based on the response that we've received from the public, we expect it to be very very popular."

A three-day grand opening this weekend will feature festive lighting and entertainment. Plans are to keep the rink, which is being operated by a private vendor, open through January 6th.

It's $4 a head and free for kids 12 and under. There's a $3 rental fee for skates.

If things go well, look for a longer skating season next year.
