Camden Co. Officials Warn Of Potentially Lethal Drugs Believed Responsible For More Than 50 Overdoses, Including 4 Fatalities
VOORHEES, NJ (CBS) – Officials in Camden County are warning residents about a potentially lethal batch of drugs that's suspected to be behind at least 50 suspected overdoses.
Since June 1st, officials say four people have died and more than 50 have overdosed in the county. Three of the fatal overdoses involved glassines/wax folds marked "Best Buy," which reportedly contained fentanyl.
Fentanyl is a legal synthetic opioid that is 15-20 times more potent than heroin and is usually prescribed by doctors for pain relief.
Officials say that in addition to "Best Buy," there have been three other stamps associated with the overdoses: "Empire," "Bugatti," and "Red Devil." There have also been unmarked blue wax folds.
The Drug Monitoring Initiative (DMI) is reportedly monitoring the situation.
