C-Sections Should Not Be Alternative Of Convenience

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - A new study has some dramatic results: C-section complication rates are 5 times higher at some hospitals than others.

This is an important study because complications of caesarian sections affect more than ten percent of childbirths.

There are many reasons for caesarian sections that are justified and can actually improve care and be beneficial for the child but, in recent years, there has been a tendency to have so-called convenience C-sections that are done for non-medical reasons. These are the procedures that are frowned upon and are being targeted as areas of concern.

In addition, medical organizations are watching closely that physicians are not performing C-sections on patients for their own convenience.

If you are pregnant, talk with you doctor about C-sections and the philosophy you both have.
