Bustleton Blaze Injures 1, Displaces 2 Families

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Authorities say one man was taken to the hospital and two families have been displaced after a fire ripped through an apartment complex in Northeast Philadelphia.

The fire broke out around 3:20 am Saturday morning at the 9800 block of Haldeman Avenue.

The fire started in a basement and Carlos Gonzalez, a resident of the building, said he and his wife woke up and heard the alarm and that's when they evacuated.

"She looked in the hallway saw smoke, so we just got up." said Gonzales. "It's a terrible feeling."

Authorities say the fire was under control around 4:10 am and one man was taken to Torresdale Hospital.

The Red Cross is assisting two families, about ten people, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
