Burlco Courthouse Improvements Behind Schedule

MOUNT HOLLY, N.J. (CBS) - Security improvements at the Burlington County Courthouse are running a tad behind schedule.

The crucial part of the $9.4-million project is about ready to be completed. A new lobby will change the way people enter the county administration building in Mount Holly and the courthouse behind it.

"The modern template would be to have one point of entry," Burlington County spokesman Eric Arpert told KYW Newsradio. "That'll be open on December First. And that's right in the front of our building. It'll be an easier point of entry for all of our residents."

But bad weather paired with some unexpected discoveries in the courtyard -- like a buried staircase -- have extended the work needed on an enclosed escalator between the two structures.

No one's quite sure where that staircase came from and much of Mount Holly is centuries old. But luckily, nothing historic was found underground.

Hopes are to get the entire project done by April.
