Bui's Lunch Truck

BUI'S LUNCH TRUCK
38th and Spruce

A friend working at CHOP swears by the fried egg sandwiches here. So we started with the pepperoni, peppers and cheese. It came with hot Bui sauce, which appears to be a mix of mayo and Sriracha sauce. A decent value for $4. Our verdict? Meh. Nothing special here.

Not as good was the Mr. Bui sandwich. The description sounded like a nice spin on the chicken cheesesteak, coming with green peppers and teriyaki sauce. But the chicken was overcooked to the point where it had the consistency of balsa wood. And the distribution was poor, with a full third of the sandwich being nothing more than bread slathered with teriyaki. Nice idea, terrible execution.

I know that this family-operated truck has been going since 1988, and has a strong legion of fans. But on the day we visited, it did not deliver quality.

Score: 55/100
