Bucks County, Pa. Debuts Online Video Spotlighting the Tragedy of Heroin Addiction

DOYLESTOWN, Pa. (CBS) -- The human devastation caused by heroin addiction is the focus of a pair of videos that were premiered today in Bucks County, with anti-drug leaders and prosecutors hoping they will go viral.
Prosecutors say the two versions of the video, titled "Heroin Kills," tell the heartwrenching account of a suburban mother who prays she'll never get the phone call that her daughter has died of a heroin overdose. She talks about the toll her daughter's drug abuse has taken, including her daughter's failed attempts to kick the habit and selling her parents' possessions to buy drugs.
"I'm hoping that this serves as a wake-up call to these young people that they know that this has a ripple effect, not only on them but on their loved ones and on the entire community that's very difficult to reverse," says Matt Weintraub, a Bucks County prosecutor.
A ten-minute version is available for schools. There's also a one-minute version that officials hope local TV stations will air.
The students who helped produce the videos hope to take the videos viral through the use of social media.
