Bucks County Man Killed In Crash At Williams Grove Speedway

MECHANICSBURG, Pa. (CBS/AP) --- A Sprint car driver from Bucks County, Pennsylvania has died after a crash at a racetrack in Mechanicsburg.

The Cumberland County Coroner's Office said James Campbell Jr., a driver from Feasterville, was killed Friday night after striking the wall during warm-up laps at Williams Grove Speedway.

Cassie Reese witnessed the crash.

"We saw the car go around the track, it started having smoke, it eventually flipped," Reese told reporters at the raceway. "It involved three other cars. The car eventually caught fire, responders quickly came over and put the fire out. Two ambulances came over, we thought that was kind of the end of it, until no one was kind of telling us that the drivers were okay."

Speedway officials put a barrier up around the deceased driver's car.

Reese says she never imagined the crash would claim a life.

"This looked like a typical class that everyone would walk away from. I've seen worse accidents, absolutely," Reese said. "This was definitely something that we thought they would say everything's fine, we would all clap and be happy that everything was good. This definitely didn't turn out that way."

The speedway canceled the rest of the race after the accident. The race last night was promoted as Kid's Night at the racetrack.
