Box Office Report: Miss Peregrine Leads The Cast

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A fantasy from director Tim Burton led the way at multiplexes over the weekend.

Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children finished first by earning an estimated $29-million on its debut weekend.

Another new attraction finished second:

Deepwater Horizon, a docudrama about the biggest oil spill in American history, starring Mark Wahlberg, was the runner-up with $21 million.

Falling from first place last weekend to third this weekend was the holdover western remake, The Magnificent Seven, with Denzel Washington. It took in another $16-million.

And rounding out the top five were holdovers Storks and Sully, with $14 million and $8 million, respectively.

New titles claimed the next two slots:

The slapstick comedy, Masterminds, with Zach Galifiankis, was sixth with $7-million.

And the biodrama, Queen of Katwe, with Lupita Nyong'o, earned $3-million, good for seventh place.
