Boomer Between The Games: Week 2 Preview With Mike Quick

By DJ Sixsmith

Week 1 of the NFL season was better than advertised. This season, NFL fans will be able to hear even more about their favorite teams in a brand new digital show called Boomer Between the Games. Hosted by NFL on CBS analyst and WFAN radio host Boomer Esiason, the former NFL quarterback gives his thoughts on the week that was in the National Football League and chats with an all-star roster of guests about the upcoming week of games.

This week on Boomer Between the Games, 5x Pro Bowler and former Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Mike Quick joined Boomer. Quick is also the color commentator for Eagles football on Philadelphia Sports Radio 94.1 WIP. This week's was very Philadelphia focused as the Eagles Hall of Famer chatted with Boomer about the Eagles Week 1 win over Cleveland, Carson Wentz's upside and the team's Week 2 tilt in Chicago against the Bears. Quick and Esiason agree that Wentz is the real deal and that he's the type of quarterback that can one day be one of the top signal callers in the game. Boomer praised head coach Doug Pederson and the Eagles front office for trading up to get Wentz and believing he would be a better NFL product than Jared Goff.

Additionally, Quick and Esiason took a look back at Jimmy Garoppolo's performance in Week 1 against the Arizona Cardinals. The former Eagles wide receiver wasn't surprised by how good Garoppolo was in his first career start considering he's been learning from one of the best quarterbacks ever in Tom Brady. Esiason was in lock step with Quick and the WFAN radio host thinks that the Patriots can win a majority of their games with Garoppolo under center until Brady comes back from his four game suspension. Both of the former NFL players noted that players like Chris Hogan, Martellus Bennett & Julian Edelman were a huge help in getting Garoppolo through a tough road start.

Speaking of the AFC, Boomer and Mike looked ahead to one of the most intriguing games of the week between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Cincinnati Bengals. This is the first time these two teams will play since their controversial and highly entertaining playoff game last season. Quick and Esiason disagreed on who the winner will in this matchup. This week's guest admitted that he is all in with the Steelers after their dominant Monday Night Football performance against Washington. Boomer likes the Steelers, but the former Bengals quarterback likes Cincinnati's depth on defense and the poise of Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton even more.

Finally, Boomer and Mike grabbed a fan question from Twitter to discuss whether they trust Wentz or Dallas Cowboys rookie Dak Prescott more in Week 2. Prescott was solid in his first career start against the New York Giants with 227 yards passing and 25 completions, but failed to throw a touchdown pass. Quick and Esiason both feel that Wentz will play better this week than Prescott. Chicago's defense is in the bottom half of the league, while Dallas has to play against Washington's tough front seven. However, Boomer was quick to point out that the pressure of Monday Night Football is different from any other game. The former NFL MVP expects Wentz to make mistakes in Chicago, but believes the Eagles will be 2-0.

Boomer Between the Games will be available every week here on CBS Local Sports. Throughout the entire season, Boomer will be joined by guests like CBS Sports Radio's Brian Jones, former NFL quarterback Chris Simms and 2x Super Bowl champ Phil Simms. Jones will stop by next week to look back at Week 2 and look ahead to the great games in Week 3. Join the conversation with Boomer each week by using #BoomerBTG and one of your tweets could be included in next week's show.
