Woman's Body Found Inside Trash Bag

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Philadelphia Police are working to identify a woman whose body was found inside a trash bag on a North Philadelphia street overnight Tuesday.

Around 1 a.m., officers and paramedics responded to a 911 call of a person laying on the sidewalk under a train trestle on the 1800 block of Westmoreland Street in Tioga.

They found an adult woman with trauma to her face and head, blood on her clothing, and her legs and torso inside a trash bag.

Medics pronounced the woman dead less than 20 minutes later.

"Right now, we don't have or know the cause of death, but it appears that there was some sort of trauma to her face, also her head," said Chief Inspector Scott Small. "The fact that her body is in a trash bag is of course, very suspicious."

The body will undergo an autopsy at the medical examiner's office to determine how the woman died.
