Blatstein Reboots Makeover of Pier Shops at Caesars, in Atlantic City

By Pat Loeb

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (CBS) -- Developer Bart Blatstein's plans to redevelop the shopping mall at Caesars Casino, in Atlantic City, are back on track.

One month after cancelling a planned news conference to announce his plans for the Pier Shops, Blatstein has rescheduled the event for this coming Wednesday.

Blatstein took over the lease on the shops when the previous landlord went into foreclosure, but Caesars -- which still owns the land the mall sits on -- went to court to stop the deal, saying it was still owed back taxes and rent from previous tenants.

Now, a spokesman for Blatstein's company says out-of-court negotiations with Caesars have been successful and the developer plans to unveil the same plans he has had for the troubled property all along -- plans the spokesman calls "blockbuster."

Caesars refused to comment.
