Black Friday Online Sales Hit Record High

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The holiday shopping season started with a bang -- thanks to record growth in online shopping on Black Friday.

It was the biggest online shopping day ever.

"The total came in at a whopping $3.4-billion day," said Tamara Gaffney, with Adobe Insights, which publishes research on digital marketing.

Gaffney says when you roll in shopping from Thanksgiving, the total climbs to $5-billion spent online. That's even before Cyber Monday comes into play.

Black Friday also became the first day in retail history to drive over one billion dollars in mobile revenue.

"Email was a big driver of those folks who came on in the evening time to go ahead and go shopping," Gaffney said.

The best-selling toys were LEGO Creator sets and Razor scooters. The most popular products were iPads, Samsung 4K televisions and MacBook Airs.

Retail experts are looking ahead to Cyber Monday, but, so far, it appears Black Friday may have the crown for online shopping king.
