Bitter Cold Delays Bridge Inspections In Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Three city-owned bridges, which cross the Schuykill River, are on schedule to be inspected this week as part of routine maintenance.

But they were actually delayed today because the piece of equipment used to inspect the bridges wouldn't start in the bitter cold.

The work will most likely continue through the rest of the week, if that equipment can start.

Temporary lane closures will be through Friday between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Flaggers will be on scene to regulate traffic flow on the Falls Bridge, between Martin Luther King Drive and Kelly Drive; the Strawberry Mansion Bridge, between Greenland Drive and Woodford Drive and Martin Luther King Drive bridge, north of the Ben Franklin Parkway.

The Philadelphia Streets Department says there should be a minor disruption of both vehicle and pedestrian traffic as a result.
