Bill Placing New Restrictions On Pennsylvania Abortions Put On Hold
HARRISBURG, Pa. (CBS) -- The brakes have been put on a fast-tracked state House bill that would place new restrictions on abortion in Pennsylvania.
In anticipation of a House vote on the bill that would ban elective abortions after 20 weeks, Governor Tom Wolf joined others at a press conference Monday afternoon to restate his opposition to the measure.
"I'm here to stand with you and with everyone in Pennsylvania who would be harmed – harmed – by this legislation," Wolf said. "If this legislation reaches my desk, let me just say I will veto it. If it passes the House… [applause interrupts]"
Just a few hours later, a spokesman for the House Republican majority leader said there would be no vote on the abortion bill this week, because, he claims, lawmakers are dealing with other pressing issues, and some members wanted more time to study the bill.
After this week, the House will not be back in session until May.
