Big Cats Celebrate Their Birthdays At Phila. Zoo With... Blood Popsicles

By Hadas Kuznits

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Some of the big cats at the Philadelphia Zoo are being celebrated this week.

Birthday celebrations abound at the Philadelphia Zoo with seven cats celebrating their big days.

"We have tiger twin boys that are four-years-old. We have a leopard that is 14 and then we have quadruplet lion cub girls."

Lead keeper Kay Buffamante says to mark the occasions, the cats get special birthday treats.

The animals are given frozen cow's blood.

Nine-year-old Maggie says blood popsicles will not be served at her birthday party.

"Ew."

Kuznits: "That doesn't sound good to you?"

"It does not sound good at all!"

Maggie points out a two-year-old lion is nothing like a two-year-old human.

"When I was two, I wasn't even half that size!"

"The two-year-olds are what we call sub-adults, or teenagers," Buffamante says.

The cats will be celebrated all weekend with a scavenger hunt and crafts.
