Betting Trends: Eagles -4.5 Vs. Saints

By Andrew Porter

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Here we go again. Just like Week 3, the Eagles are facing another early-season "must-win" type of game as they welcome the 1-3 New Orleans Saints to town for a Sunday 1:00 p.m. kick off.

The Saints are coming off a big overtime win over the Dallas Cowboys last Sunday night, while the Eagles---also 1-3---are coming off an atrocious three-point loss at the Washington Redskins.

SportsBookReview.com has the Eagles as 4.5-point favorites over the Saints, with an over/under of 49.5. However, the public thinks the line is a tad bit too high.

  • 52.7% of the action is on the Saints.
  • Philadelphia is 2-6 SU and ATS in its last 8 games
  • Philadelphia is 10-4 SU in its last 14 games at home
  • The total has gone OVER in 5 of Philadelphia's last 7 games when playing New Orleans
  • Philadelphia is 1-5 SU in its last 6 games when playing New Orleans
  • Philadelphia is 2-4 ATS in its last 6 games when playing New Orleans
  • Philadelphia is 2-4 ATS in its last 6 games when playing at home against New Orleans

While the trends may point toward the Saints, Nikki Adams of SBR likes the Birds.

"Based on the 1-3 SU records of both teams, a 4.5-point spread does seem a touch generous, especially with the Eagles being way off of expectations," Adams said. "Yet, seeing how close all those games were, it might suggest that they are merely one game away from figuring things out on the field. The Saints really don't strike a formidable pose, prompting us to consider this game as the one that sees the Eagles finally lighting it up offensively, according to those preseason expectations.

Take the Eagles as the 4.5-point favorites to win and cover with your NFL pick in Week 5."
