Man Accused Of Killing Cousin Involved In Police Standoff In Bethlehem

BETHLEHEM, Pa. (CBS) -- A homicide suspect was taken into custody on Thursday morning after a police standoff in the area prompted three nearby schools to go on lockdown.

Bethlehem Township Police and Pennsylvania State Police surrounded suspect John Michael Hann near Oakland Road around 9 a.m. until eventually taking him into custody just before 10:30 a.m.

Police say he was involved in a homicide in Lehigh Township on Wednesday night. Police say Joseph Mullner was shot multiple times and died from his injuries.

Northampton County District Attorney John Morganelli says Hann and Mullner were cousins who were involved in an ongoing personal dispute.

Morganelli says Mullner's wife, Melinda Mullner, called 911 Wednesday night to say that Hann shot her and her husband.

The standoff prompted the lockdown of Freedom High School, East Hills Middle School and Bethlehem Area Vocational-Technical School.

The lockdowns have since been lifted and East Hills students at Liberty were transported to East Hills Middle School.

Hann has been charged with homicide and attempted homicide.
