Beer Coming To Class At Local University

PHILADEPHIA (CBS) -- The University of the Sciences has decided to take the plunge and offer a curriculum dedicated to the science of beer.
Mathew Farber is the Dr. Frankenstein behind this ambitious experiment. He believes the industry is in need of new blood.
"Craft beer added over five thousand new jobs last year and just continues to rise." Said Farber, "So as the industry continues to expand we foresee the continuing need for more trained employees."
The University of the Sciences will accept 20 students for the first class that begins in August.
Farber said the school is going all in, offering an 18 credit graduate certificate program that will feature classes such as microbiology of beer and a quality control lab tied into a pilot campus brewery. Sadly, they'll have to dump most of the product. This is, after all, a learning institution.
Farber said course work can be completed in a year and an internship will follow: "We're in the process of reaching out to local breweries to try and set up these internships."
