Bear Spotted In The Area Of 55+ Community In Burlington County

MANSFIELD TOWNSHIP, N.J. (CBS) – Police in Mansfield Township say a bear was spotted Thursday afternoon in the Homestead Development off of Jacksonville Road.

Police say bird feeders were the bear's primary interest, as it went from home-to-home cleaning out the feeders.

Authorities are urging residents to move their bird feeders indoors to avoid attracting the bear's attention.

As of 7:50 p.m., police say the bear has moved out of the Homestead development and through the Country Walk development, crossing Petticoat Bridge Road.  It was last seen continuing east through the field to the southeast of the Columbus Road and Petticoat Bridge Road intersection.

Police say any bear sightings can be reported by calling the dispatch center at 609-723-8300.

Also, black bear damage, or nuisance behavior can be reported to the NJ Department of Environmental Protection's 24-hour hotline at 1-877-927-6337.
