Bear Removed From Tree In Abington Township
ABINGTON Twp., Pa., (CBS) – A 125-pound black bear was captured in Abington Township Wednesday night after wandering into someone's backyard.
Authorities have been searching for the bear for a few days.
The bear was first spotted Saturday in Abington Township, as well as in parts of Northeast Philadelphia.
Police received a call shortly before 8 p.m. Wednesday night.
The bear was spotted in a tree in the backyard of a home in the 900 block of Meetinghouse Road in Abington Township.
The Pennsylvania Game Commissioner says it's a 125-pound black bear that is about a year-and-a-half old.
The bear was shot with some tranquilizers. The bear then fell about 20 feet out of the tree.
The game commissioner indicates the animal is doing well. The bear will be tagged and then officially weighed Thursday.
If given a clean bill of health, the bear will be released into state gamelands.
Police have been warning residents in Philadelphia and Montgomery County to be on the lookout after receiving reports of sightings.
