Bar Hopping For A Cause! Pope Pub Crawl Debuts During Papal Visit

By Andrew Kramer

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Thousands of people are planning to venture from bar to bar in Philadelphia during this weekend's Papal visit, with proceeds going to a great cause.

While over a million people will crowd different areas of the city to see Pope Francis, others will be packing the local bars during the first ever Pope Pub Crawl.

"This is really a celebration of the Pope being in town," says Ray Sheehan, one of the event's organizers, "and what better way than to organize a nice pub crawl?"

Sheehan says this is yet another way to enjoy the Papal visit:

"We saw it as an opportunity to really showcase Philadelphia in a unique way, by showcasing some of Philadelphia's amazing neighborhoods."

He adds the main idea behind the crawl...is charity:

"Obviously the Pope is here to spread the good word, and our idea is also to spread the good word."

Proceeds will go to Philabundance.
