Norristown Man Arraigned In Murder Of Elderly Woman In East Mount Airy

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Bail has been denied for a neighborhood handyman charged in the death of an elderly woman found beaten and stabbed to death in the bedroom of her northwest Philadelphia home.

Court documents indicate that 37-year-old Leroy Wilson of Norristown was arraigned early Sunday on charges of murder, robbery, attempted burglary, receiving stolen property, identity theft and other counts in the death of 85-year-old Regina Brunner, whose body was found Monday in hear East Mount Airy home.

Wilson was arrested Saturday in Norristown by local and Philadelphia police and federal marshals. Police said evidence from the victim's car and computer pointed to him, and surveillance video showed him trying to use her debit card.

Homicide detectives say Wilson had worked as handyman for several people in the neighborhood, including Brunner.
