Bacon Madness Hits Philadelphia Area Brewery Chain
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – It's no secret that bacon pairs nicely with…well, everything.
Now, the chefs at a local brewery chain are going bacon-crazy, mixing bacon into everything from risotto to chocolate flan.
All 10 locations of Iron Hill Brewery will be celebrating "Bacon Madness" from March 20 through March 23rd. That means an array of bacon-infused appetizers, entrees and desserts created by the head chef at each location.
Some of the more droolworthy highlights include "Elvis Bites" (deep-fried banana, bacon and peanut butter sandwiches served with warm honey), bacon-wrapped filet mignon and a candied bacon cannoli filled with salted caramel and candied bacon ice cream.
Of course, the gluttony doesn't stop there; two Iron Hill locations are also hosting special bacon events. At Iron Hill Wilmington, there will be a six-course "Six Degrees of Bacon Meal" with beer pairings, and the West Chester location will host a four-course Beer and Bacon Brunch.
According to Iron Hill's Assistant Director of Culinary Operations Chef Dan Bethard, the brewery wanted to mix March Madness with Bacon Madness.
"March Madness inspires fanatical devotion -- and so does bacon, so we thought, 'Why not combine them?'" Bethard explains.
