HAMILTON TOWNSHIP, N.J. (CBS) - A deadly house fire in Mercer County has claimed the lives of two people, including a baby. The two-alarm fire started around 3:30 a.m. Friday on the 200 block of Woodlawn Avenue in Hamilton Township.

Officials confirm that a 9-month-old baby girl and the child's grandmother, a woman in her 40s, were both killed.

The landlord for the adjoining home, Joseph Shamma, says he got a call from a tenant that the building was on fire.

"It's horrible," he told Eyewitness News. "I saw it when the flames were blazing."

Three others were hurt in the fire. According to officials, three families were living in the duplex. Shamma says he used the see the victims in the area from time to time.

"It's very hard, it's terrible. My heart goes out to the family…you don't like it," he says.

The American Red Cross is helping out 10 people displaced by the fire. Officials are also offering emotional and mental help after the traumatic event.
