Baby, 3 Others Rescued From West Philly House Fire

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A five-month-old baby and three adults were taken to the hospital following a fire early Friday morning at a home in West Philadelphia.

The blaze broke out around 2 a.m. inside a home near 49th and Aspen Streets.

When firefighters arrived, they encountered smoke and flames billowing from the home, but they were able to place the fire under control in approximately 20 minutes.

As a precaution, a young baby, believed to be about 5-months-old, an adult female and two adult males were taken to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania for evaluation. Their injuries are not considered life-threatening.

Three other occupants of the home were also displaced and are being assisted by the Red Cross.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
