Award Ceremony In Center City Recognizes Acts Of Heroism

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Every year on 9/11, the Philadelphia Firefighters Union holds a recognition ceremony, to honor those who have gone above and beyond to save others.

Ray Vozzelli is a trustee with the Local 22 union, where this was held Sunday.

"We have to force these people to come down and take these awards," he says. "They are very modest men and women."

Vozzelli says the winner is nominated by their fellow union members, for outstanding service and bravery:

Another award to a group of firefighters who pulled people from buildings

Retired CBS 3 reporter Walt Hunter also received a special award for his work in reporting issues affecting firefighters and paramedics.
