Auto Clinic Doubling As Beauty Bar Opens In Delco

By Chelsea Lacey-Mabe

UPPER DARBY, Pa. (CBS) -- A new auto repair shop catering to women has gotten off the starting blocks.

Girls Auto Clinic Repair Center opened it's doors on Friday and CBS Philly got a first look.

The shop caters to women customers who will be able to get a mani/pedi or even a blowout at the Clutch Beauty Bar inside the shop while they wait for their car to be serviced in the garage.

But not only that, the shop also employs women mechanics or "she-canics" as Girls Auto Clinic founder, Patrice Banks calls them.

The shop is currently taking soft opening appointments early. The grand opening is Friday, Nov. 25.

Although the shop is brand new, Banks has been in the business of cars for a few years now and has been educating other women about what goes on under the hood as well. She's hosted monthly car care workshops in Philadelphia, walking women through oil changes and showing them how to put in new filters.

Banks, the former self-proclaimed "auto-airhead" has come a long way herself when it comes to mechanics -- leaving her job in 2011 to go to auto repair school. The new shop is a testament to her hard work.
