Police ID NJ Father Who Drowned In Delaware River

BURLINGTON, N.J. (CBS) – Authorities were searching for two swimmers who went missing in the Delaware River Sunday in separate incidents, and one of them has been found dead.

Police were searching for a swimmer who went missing in the Delaware River off of York Road in Burlington, New Jersey around 7 p.m.

Police believe the victim was attempting to swim from Burlington Park to Burlington Island and went under.

Authorities say local boaters attempted to rescue the victim, but were unsuccessful.  His body was found several hours later.

On Monday, police identified the victim as Thomas Scott, 24, of Edgewater Park, New Jersey.

Authorities say he was a father of two young children.

Officials say the incident is not connected to the other water rescue/drowning that occurred in Bristol Boro, Bucks County, that occurred earlier Sunday.

Both incidents remain under investigation.
