Authorities Investigating Alleged Hazing Incidents At Chester County High School

BERWYN, Pa. (CBS) -- Sources tell CBS 3 that Chester County detectives and local police are investigating alleged hazing incidents involving primarily football players at Conestoga High School.

Sources say teams of detectives have visited the Main Line High School and are in the process of interviewing as many as 60 or 70 students, for an alleged assault during the hazing that may have injured one student.

Sources tell CBS 3 that the investigation centers on allegations of "ritual hazing among team players, that occurred on the same day every week. A day, sources say, on which some students told detectives they deliberately avoided the gym at certain times.

Sources also say that no students have been criminally charged or disciplined by school officials.

Tredyffrin Easttown School District initially referred all inquiries to the Chester County District Attorney's Office, which declined comment. It has since released this statement:

"We have been advised by Chester County law enforcement officials of a police investigation related to alleged hazing by Conestoga High School current and/or former football players. The District places the highest priority on student safety and, to that end, is cooperating in any way it can with law enforcement officials. As this is not currently a school district investigation, we are not in a position to answer any questions or provide more information at this time. However, if you or your child has any information pertinent to this matter, please contact the Chester County District Attorney's Office or the Tredyffrin Township Police Department."
