PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Philadelphia Museum of Art is currently showing, "Audubon to Warhol; The Art of American Still Life" now through January 10th.

Mark Mitchell, the exhibitions curator gives a preview.

"Around every corner lies one of the great works of American art and I think for most people, we don't assume that "still life" painting contain the masterpieces of an entire national tradition. I think it will really be a surprise, an opportunity and a real marvel.

Mitchell describes "still life" art.

"So these are the things that surround us in our lives, the things in our homes, the things that we discover as we go on our way to work. The things that surround us in every part of our lives and so "still life" provides us an opportunity to look at those things more closely and also to understand the culture that makes meanings in those things."
