Attorney General Kathleen Kane Says She Will Not Resign If She Faces Criminal Charges

HARRISBURG, Pa (CBS) -- Attorney General Kathleen Kane reiterated Tuesday that she has no intention of resigning if the Montgomery County DA brings charges against her.

Montgomery County DA Risa Ferman has been reviewing a grand jury's recommendations of charges against Attorney General Kane stemming from alleged grand jury leaks, and Ferman's office is conducting its own investigation of Kane, who says she will handle whatever comes and will not resign.

"I will handle it, and I will continue to do my job." said Kane.

Kane said her attorneys have not been given indication that a decision by Ferman is imminent.

"I have not been told that." said Kane. "And in fact, I hear the rumors around Harrisburg, and I sometimes think the rumor mill is akin to middle school sometimes. But no, we haven't heard anything like that."

Kane's comments came at a news conference to announce hundreds of charges against former Harrisburg Mayor Stephen Reed.

The former mayor is accused misusing public debt in part for personal gain and creating a fiscal crisis the state's capital city.
