Attorney General Candidates Speak On Kane Resignation

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The two men vying to replace Kathleen Kane as attorney general are weighing in on her resignation.
State Senator and republican candidate for Pennsylvania attorney general John Rafferty says Kathleen Kane's resignation is the right decision for the people of Pennsylvania.
"It's time we refocus the priorities of the office of attorney general on keeping Pennsylvania a safe place and protecting the welfare of its residents," said Rafferty.
Chairman of the Montgomery County board of commissioners, and democratic attorney general candidate Josh Shapiro also welcomes the resignation as a chance to move forward.
"To restore public trust in our democracy and ensure that the people's business, protecting consumers, fighting the heroin epidemic, and keeping communities safe come first," said Shapiro.
The winner of the November election will take office in January. Until then, Governor Tom Wolf says he'll work with the senate on a potential appointment.
