Police: Deli Owner Left In Critical Condition Outside Store Was Targeted

PHILADLEPHIA (CBS) -- A 40-year-old man is in critical condition at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center following an attempted robbery.

The incident happened around 1:35 p.m. at S. 54 and Delancey Streets.

The business owner was outside of his store in Cobbs Creek

Police say a man with the assault rifle walked up to him and tried to force him into the store.

In an attempt to get away, the business owner then sprayed the gunman in the face with a garden hose.

The gunman opened fire, hitting the victim.

Police describe the gunman as a black man armed with a shotgun.

Police Search For Gunman And Motive After Victim Is Pistol Whipped, Shot

He is also said to be bald, 6' tall, wearing a dark hoodie, ripped light blue jeans and white sneakers.

Police are still investigating and searching for the gunman.
