Police Searching For 2 Suspects In ATM Skimming Incidents

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Philadelphia police are searching for at least two suspects involved in a theft ring by stealing people's ATM information by using Bluetooth technology.

Skimmers are getting smaller and the people installing them getting more creative in making the devices blend into their surroundings.

"It'll be the same color, everything. You'll never know the difference," said Capt. Roland Lee of the Major Crimes Unit.

Illegal gadgets were recovered from two locations on Sept. 15.

"It can fit right into the ATM machine, so to a person not suspecting, it looks like it's a part of the regular equipment," said Lee.

Employees at a Univest Bank on Rhawn Street in the Fox Chase section of Philadelphia confirm a skimmer was installed on their exterior ATM.

Lee says another was discovered at a bank in Willow Grove.

The suspect may be part of a larger ring.

Besides the Fox Chase and Willow Grove skimmers, Abington police are looking for a suspect who targeted a Citizens Bank in their township.

Lee says contact police and your bank if you notice unauthorized ATM withdraws.

Investigators also found pin hole cameras above the pin pad, recording people entering their pin numbers.

Police have found more than 20 skimming devices in Philadelphia this year.
