As Storm Approaches, Get Medical Needs Taken Care Of Now

CHALFONT, Pa. (CBS) - People are known to flock to the grocery store before a snowstorm., but before the bread, milk and eggs, there are medical preparations you should take.

Snow and ice can make it harder for an ambulance to reach you.

"Difficulty getting into driveways that haven't been plowed. Sidewalks. Getting into homes that haven't been shoveled," says Barbara Stebulis -- a paramedic with Chal-Brit in Bucks County.

She has close to 40 years experience in the field. She wants people to know there are certain services that EMTs and paramedics can not provide:

"We are not physicians. We can't come out and prescribe medication for you. We can't come out and give you medication. We can't come out and suture anything. We can't do those things. We come out, we treat what we see and we take you to the hospital."

She advises people make sure they have their prescriptions filled and if you're on oxygen, make sure you have enough.

Also, she says take care of any lingering medical concerns today, before the storm hits.
