Artists Rolling Out DNC Donkeys To Build Excitement
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – We'll soon be seeing "Donkeys Around Town" for the upcoming Democratic National Convention.
Thirty local artists are putting the final brush strokes on 57 fiberglass donkeys -- the symbol of the democrats.
The donkeys and artists were scattered inside a giant warehouse at the Tioga Marine Terminal in Port Richmond Thursday. Each delegation gave instruction on what iconic imagery needed to be included.
Graphic artist Hawk Krall was assigned the New Jersey donkey.
"For New Jersey, the only change I had to make, they just said Frank Sinatra looks like Frank Sinatra and I think I got pretty close," he says.
"An Atlantic City beach scene and that's actually where the lettering is going to go, the New Jersey lettering is going to go over that," adds Krall. "I got just generic casinos, there is no Trump casino, I stayed away from that."
Minnesota's donkey was purple and had the image of Prince included.

The donkeys will be displayed at various locations around the city on July 1st. Scavenger hunt games centered on the statues will be played during the convention with prizes awarded to winners.
An auction will be held for the donkeys. State delegates get first bid, then the auction opens to the public. Proceeds will be split among the artists.
