Archdiocese Offers Advice For Catholics This Snowy Weekend

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Because of the snowstorm, the Archdiocese of Philadelphia is advising Catholics to exercise prudent judgment about attending mass this Sunday.

Fr. Dennis Gill, director of the Office for Divine Worship for the Archdiocese, says Catholics, especially the elderly, should not put themselves or others at risk:

"While we recognize that while the obligation is to be taken very seriously, if we can't get there safely or if there's a risk of falling or hurting ourselves or hurting someone else, then we make a prudent judgment. This Sunday we cannot make it to Mass. There's no serious sin with making a prudent judgment like that."

Gill says, however, to observe the Lord's day it is possible to watch the Sunday Mass on television, read the scripture readings for this Sunday, including the Gospel, and offer prayers or a rosary.
