Aquarium Welcomes Second Penguin Chick of the New Year in Camden

CAMDEN, N.J., (CBS) -- The Adventure Aquarium in Camden, New Jersey has welcomed its second penguin chick of the New Year!

The African penguin chick hatched Thursday afternoon to parents Minnie and Kamikaze. Much like its sibling that arrived on Sunday, the aquarium says the chick is healthy, alert, active, and very vocal.

This chick is Minnie and Kamikaze's 8th since they became a breeding pair, and will be the 5th of theirs to call Adventure Aquarium home, along with siblings Myer, Jack and Jambo.

The aquarium says three of the pair's other chicks were sent to other facilities across the country as part of the AZA's Species Survival Program breeding recommendations.

The chick weighs 52 grams (1.8 ounces).  It's a bit smaller than the first chick, something the aquarium says is very common with a second egg.

The chicks will continue to be monitored by the Adventure Aquarium team.
