Apps Make Learning Fun

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Much has been written recently critiquing young people's increased use of technology; however most of the detractors don't realize that many materials are challenging and reinforce classroom teachings.

Some free apps which one can get on any smartphone are engaging.

Wordament is a Boggle-like game that allows people of all ages to compete against each other in real time to find the best words on the board in less than two minutes.

Apps for Common Core provide teachers and parents information about the standards at their fingertips, helping better understand them and their value. 2048 is a fast-paced competition to add numbers together until reaching the goal.

Perhaps the best known educational app is often not thought of as educational. Words with Friends can enable Scrabble aficionados to challenge people on the other side of the globe in a high stakes game of word-smithing.

People may think that using apps is a solitary and sedentary activity; these apps prove otherwise!
